Corentin Tolisso has been left out of Didier Deschamps’s 26 for the 2026 World Cup, ending the Lyon captain’s hopes of a recall. Academy products Malo Gusto, Rayan Cherki and Bradley Barcola are included.
The list, unveiled on TF1 shortly before 20:30, confirmed growing indications that Tolisso would miss out despite Eduardo Camavinga also being omitted, Le Progres reports.
In a later press conference, Deschamps praised Tolisso’s season and said he had often been pushed high, even as a centre forward, yet he is less accustomed than others to the pivot role. He added that five midfielders are undisputed, a sixth might have opened an extra slot, and he referenced Florian Thauvin’s experience while making an exception only for N’Golo Kanté, adding that he understands Tolisso’s disappointment.
On Monday at the UNFP awards, the 2018 world champion said he had worked extremely hard this year and would have no regrets whatever happened. Several figures present told him he deserved a France return, and Deschamps later offered brief congratulations.
According to those close to him, Tolisso was already hurt by his omission from March friendlies against Brazil and Colombia, and he was downcast after Lyon’s Europa League exit to Celta Vigo. Gusto, Cherki and Barcola will now head to the United States for their first World Cup, representing Chelsea, Manchester City and PSG.
