Cruz Azul claimed the 2025 Concacaf title and Flamengo won the 2025 Copa Libertadores. Al-Ahli secured Asia by winning the 2024/25 and 2025/26 AFC Champions League, while Pyramids and Mamelodi Sundowns won Africa in 2024/25 and 2025/26 respectively. PSG are in as 2024/25 European champions.

The second edition of FIFA's tournament does not yet have a host. Despite talk of expanding to 48 teams, it remains slated to follow the original 32-team format.

Continental champions across the four-year cycle are guaranteed entry, with confederation rankings to complete the 2029 line-up.

The inaugural event in 2025, staged in the United States, featured four Brazilian clubs. Fluminense reached the semi-finals, Palmeiras went out in the quarters, and Botafogo and Flamengo exited in the last 16. Chelsea lifted the trophy with a 3-0 win in the final after losing to Flamengo in the group stage and eliminating Palmeiras and Fluminense in the knockouts.
