American full-back Kristoffer Lund has become Blues' fifth summer signing

Birmingham City's summer transfer activity has certainly intensified within the past month, and now the club have completed as many as five incoming deals ahead of the Championship season.

Jhon Solis and James Beadle returned to this part of the West Midlands from Girona FC and Brighton and Hove Albion respectively, with the former of those deals being permanent.

Dael Fry was then acquired on a free transfer after the experienced centre-back left Middlesbrough, before Argentinian striker, Luis Vazquez, joined from Anderlecht.

However, some concern was raised earlier in July when German full-back, Kai Wagner, saw his brief spell in B9 cut short, as he returned to MLS side, Philadelphia Union, for personal reasons.

That said, Birmingham have wasted no time in sourcing a replacement, and on Thursday afternoon, Kristoffer Lund linked up with the Championship club after signing from Palermo on a four-year deal.

And, given his national allegiances, the 25-year-old has already been welcomed by some of the club's high-profile investors.

Indeed, it has been well-documented that American investors, Knighthead Capital Management, have lofty plans for the short and long-term as far as Blues are concerned, including a move to the Powerhouse stadium in the next five years.

During his tenure as manager, which began in June 2024, Davies has been continuously backed in the transfer market, and such a trend is now continuing into the fifth transfer window he has overseen as Birmingham boss.

As well as having the presence of majority owner, Tom Wagner, seven-time NFL Super Bowl winner, Tom Brady, owns a minority stake in the club, and has been present at crucial matches, as well as being at the front and centre of an Amazon Prime series linked to Blues.

And, it is fair to say that he will have plenty in common with Lund, who, despite being born in Kerteminde, Denmark, has US citizenshipA and has played seven times for the USMNT since his debut three years ago.

As is par for the course, Blues unveiled their latest acquisition across all social media platforms, with Brady amongst those to like an Instagram post confirming the transfer.

Even at this stage of his career, Lund boasts the experience of winning the Swedish Allsvenskan with BK Hacken, as well as 33 appearances in the Bundesliga last season on loan with FC Koln.

Naturally, there has been a mixed response to the completion of his transfer, with one Blues fan clearly pleased, saying: Genuinely has potential to be much better than Wagner and 5 years younger. Great bit of business."

Another said: "Lads a baller! As good, if not, better, than Wagner. I like it. KRO"

Given his 6'0 build, one supporter issued the response of: "Awwww lovely we are building a team of giants."

However, some have issued more cautious verdicts, with one reading: "Is this a sign were playing 5 at the back? 9 senior defenders is that at the club? Need to play much more direct if that's the case than we have in previous seasons."

"Why can’t we just sign championship proven players that know what it takes to get promoted, like is it really that hard," said another Bluenose.

It is fair to say that, throughout Davies' tenure, the left-back position has represented somewhat of a problem for Blues, which they will hope is eradicated with the capture of Lund.

Alex Cochrane was a standout performer in League One in 2024/25, but for the majority of his two-year stint thus far, has lacked competition due to Lee Buchanan's injury woes, which the former Derby County man will hope are now behind him.

Wagner, of course, lived up to the hype after his switch from Philadelphia in January, but his exit after just 16 appearances led to an understandable sense of disappointment from those associated with Blues.
