Amad Diallo returns to the Stadium of Light this weekend, and Tony Mowbray has sent a heartfelt message ahead of the occasion. The Manchester United forward is set to play on Wearside for the first time since his influential 2022/23 loan.
“Tony Mowbray was like a dad and manager for me, we had such a good relationship,” Amad said. “I really enjoyed my time in Sunderland honestly, I have nothing bad to say about the club.” He was speaking to Sky Sports.
“Hiya mate, just wanted to wish you well for this weekend going back to the Stadium of Light,” Mowbray said. “I've been watching every game, watching you do amazingly well at United.”
“I'm emotional, he gave me a lot of confidence,” Amad replied. “He gave me everything and I'm so grateful to him.”
Diallo’s loan season propelled Sunderland into the play-offs and cemented him as a crowd favourite. It also helped push him into regular senior contention at Manchester United, and he will be involved on Saturday.
Benjamin Šeško is an early injury doubt for Saturday after going off at half time in Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Liverpool on Sunday. Michael Carrick said a collision with the advertising hoardings aggravated an existing shin issue. Amad replaced him at the break and could start if Šeško is not fit, with Joshua Zirkzee another option.
