Amad Diallo will return to the Stadium of Light on Saturday, his first appearance on Wearside since a superb 2022/23 loan that made him a crowd favourite. The Manchester United forward will be involved and has spoken warmly about Sunderland’s season.

"Tony Mowbray was like a dad and manager for me, we had such a good relationship," Amad said. The comments were made to Sky Sports ahead of the game.

He was then surprised with a message from Tony Mowbray, who wished him well for his return, said he has been watching his progress at United, praised his talent from day one and urged him to keep enjoying his football.

"I'm emotional, he gave me a lot of confidence. The days after I arrived in the club he gave me the keys to shine. He gave me everything and I'm so grateful to him."

Benjamin Šeško is an early doubt after going off at half time in United’s 3-2 win over Liverpool on Sunday following a collision with the hoardings. Michael Carrick said the incident aggravated a shin problem Šeško has been carrying. Amad came on at the break and could start if Šeško is not fit, with Joshua Zirkzee another option.
