FLW has a look at the seven highest earners at Birmingham City.

After missing out on a play-off place in the previous campaign, Birmingham City will expect to finish in the top eight this season.

Even though they had only just won the League One title, there was a lot of expectancy at St. Andrew’s due to the serious investment that has been put into the club by Blues’ US owners.

Some will argue that Birmingham underachieved last time out considering the quality in the squad, but that ensures Chris Davies is going into this season with solid foundations in place.

Therefore, the summer window will be about adding quality rather than quantity, and the hierarchy at Birmingham have shown they are willing to spend on the right player.

It’s not just transfer fees either, with Blues splashing out when it comes to wages, which is crucial if you are to attract the right talent.

Following on from that, we look at the top seven highest earners by their weekly wage at Birmingham right now, although we must stress that these figures are only estimates provided by Capology

7 ? ? Marvin Ducksch - £25,000

The striker was always going to be on a fairly big salary as he joined the club from Bundesliga club Werder Bremen, and he had scored goals regularly in the German top flight.

Even though he found the net nine times in the Championship last season, Ducksch didn’t always convince, and there have been question marks surrounding his future going into the window. At 32, and with his apparent weekly wage, some may feel a departure could be best for Blues.

6 ? ? Christoph Klarer - £25,000

The centre-back is Blues’ skipper and a real leader on the pitch for this team, so it’s also no surprise that he is on this list.

He has been an influential figure since his arrival, and he will no doubt be a key figure for Davies this season as Blues look to win promotion to the Premier League, which would bring a pay rise for Klarer and the rest of his teammates.

5 ? ? Kai Wagner - £30,000

The left-back was a January recruit, and with Alex Cochrane’s terrible luck on the injury front, Blues needed to secure a quick deal.

So, the club deserves credit for bringing in Wagner, and, again, the estimated salary isn’t a massive shock. After settling into life at Blues very well, the ex-Philadelphia Union man will hope to kick-on during his first full season in England.

4 ? ? Patrick Roberts - £30,000

Another experienced player, Roberts’ estimated salary of £30,000 a week will reflect the fact that he joined Birmingham after helping Sunderland to the Premier League, so he was going to command a big wage.

Roberts is no longer a guaranteed starter, so some will argue whether Roberts should be on such money, but he could still have a big role to play for Davies.

3 ? ? Demarai Gray - £30,000

It was seen as a real coup for Blues to bring back the academy graduate back to the club 12 months ago, and Gray did enjoy a very positive start to the campaign, although he did struggle towards the end.

He is another player that is facing an uncertain future, but if Gray does stick around, he would love to take Blues back to the Premier League.

2 ? ? Kyogo Furuhashi - £35,000

Another signing from 12 months ago, there was plenty of excitement when Blues signed Kyogo, and there was hope that he could be the prolific striker Davies needed.

Yet, things did not work out for the Japanese international, as he managed just one goal in 28 appearances, with Kyogo barely featuring during the run-in. Given the fee Blues paid for him, Kyogo was always going to be on a big wage, and that could be problematic when it comes to finding a buyer this summer.

1 ? ? Carlos Vicente - £50,000

Vicente was signed by Birmingham in January, joining the club from La Liga side Alaves, so it was another statement deal by the club.

It was widely reported that Vicente was commanding a huge salary when the move happened, and Capology estimates that he is on £50,000 a week. Clearly, that is a huge figure by Championship standards, but Vicente has already shown his quality, and he will be a massive player for Davies this season.
