Leon Goretzka is increasingly on the sidelines at FC Bayern. The 30-year-old could leave the club prematurely in the winter – and earn the Munich club a transfer fee.
According to the Turkish media outlet A Spor, Fenerbahçe are planning to bring in a big-name addition to their central midfield. The Turkish top-flight club have identified Goretzka as their desired player and would like to sign the German international immediately. As his contract expires next summer, Bayern could still generate a transfer fee in January before he leaves on a free transfer. Juventus Turin are also said to have already expressed an interest and are in contact with Goretzka’s entourage.
A transfer in the winter break would not only be manageable for FC Bayern in sporting terms, but would also be economically interesting. With a market value of around €22 million, Goretzka is still a valuable player despite his poor form and advanced age, and selling him in January could also significantly reduce the pressure on the salary budget. According to Italian media, Juventus are also considering a winter transfer and have already positioned themselves. Fenerbahçe would therefore have to act quickly to avoid falling behind in the race.
The midfielder no longer plays a central role at the record champions under Vincent Kompany. He has made 15 appearances this season, but has only played 786 minutes on the pitch. The pecking order is clear: Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlovic are set, Goretzka often only remains on the bench.

Recently, the veteran has also come under increasing pressure internally. His performance in the 2:2 draw against Union Berlin – ten ball losses and hardly any noteworthy actions – led to criticism. On social networks, fans accuse him of lacking influence in the game. He is also falling off statistically: no scoring points so far this season.
FC Bayern have long had an alternative in the form of the up-and-coming Tom Bischof. The 20-year-old has already collected three assists in just 265 minutes and impresses with his vision and wit. Goretzka, on the other hand, has yet to score a single goal despite significantly more playing time.
A move in the winter would be a logical step for all sides. Fenerbahçe could strengthen their ranks, Bayern would receive a transfer fee – and Goretzka would have enough time to recommend himself to a new club for next summer’s World Cup. But Goretzka has already proven that he can fight his way back in Munich.
