Torino eye Lucas Perri as Leeds push £40m James Trafford deal | OneFootball

Leeds United have received formal enquiries from Torino for Lucas Perri, with the Serie A side preparing a loan offer including an option to buy. Leeds Live understands that the approach comes as Leeds edge towards a club-record £40m, plus bonuses, deal for Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford.

Torino have identified Perri as their leading target after first-choice keeper Franco Israel underwent shoulder surgery and faces months out.

Leeds will not consider letting Perri depart until another goalkeeper is through the door.

Perri joined from Lyon for an initial £13.9m last summer and lost the number one shirt in January after poor form. He later played a key part in the FA Cup run to the semi-finals, with crucial saves in games and shoot-outs.

Karl Darlow has joined Manchester United following the expiry of his Leeds contract, and Illan Meslier has moved to Arsenal on a free. That leaves two senior goalkeepers, Perri and Alex Cairns, who signed a new two-year deal this month.

Perri is 12 months into a four-year contract. Any exit would require Leeds to recruit a new back-up, with Cairns expected to be third choice.

Leeds have slightly tighter spending room this summer under Squad Cost Ratio rules, though other areas still need attention, including left-back and attack. The club have submitted a best and final bid for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles and are awaiting a decision from free agent number 10 Julian Brandt, a 48-time Germany international.
