In a recent report, The Sun claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are set to rival Manchester United for West Ham United ace Mateus Fernandes. It has been stated that Spurs are eyeing a move to bring the Portuguese talent to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this off-season.
Fernandes managed to catch the eye with his performances at the centre of West Ham’s midfield in the previous campaign, but failed to help them avoid relegation from the Premier League. The 21-year-old scored five times and earned five assists in 42 matches for the Hammers last season on all fronts.
The Portuguese talent is currently one of the most gifted young central midfielders in Premier League football. Hence, it is no surprise that Spurs are in the running to sign Fernandes in this transfer period.
His current contract at the London Stadium will run out in the summer of 2030. Thus, Tottenham would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about recruiting him later this year.

Fernandes is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when needed and can shoot the ball with power from long range.
The Portuguese sensation has got the vision to create some decent chances for others around him in the final third and is full of energy and running at the centre of the park. Fernandes is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also play as a holding midfielder or in the number ten position if told to do so. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League and won’t take much time to settle into life at the North London club.
We can expect Fernandes to add more quality and depth to Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi’s frontline. He has what it takes to fight for a regular first-team spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season.
At 21, the future looks quite bright for Fernandes as long as he continues to improve with each year. He will also help Spurs compete across all competitions in the coming years. Therefore, it is only logical for De Zerbi to go for a midfielder of Fernandes’ potential later this year.
