Speaking on the London is Blue podcast, respected journalist Matt Law revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are showing interest in recruiting Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. Law said,
“I keep hearing that Tottenham are very interested in Branthwaite, and everybody thinks his fee at the moment is too high.
“So, I don’t think Chelsea are active on Branthwaite, but you never know. They’ve clearly looked at him, but I think someone like Hato at the moment is more likely. But that left side is more likely than right side currently.”
Branthwaite was a good, rotational piece in Everton’s match-day squad and managed to put in a run of impressive displays on the defensive end of the field. The 22-year-old made 32 appearances for the Toffees last season, securing one assist in multiple competitions.
The English centre-back made 36 tackles, 31 blocks and 27 interceptions in the Premier League. He even distributed the ball well from the back after completing 82.1% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via fbref.com).

Branthwaite is a solid tackler of the ball and can scan the danger quickly to secure possession back for his side on the defensive third of the field. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is proficient at playing his way out from the back.
The English talent can even use his robust 1.95m frame to win his fair share of aerial duels. He has already got some valuable experience in the Premier League and could be a real asset for Tottenham.
Branthwaite would bring more bite and steel to Spurs head coach Thomas Frank’s defence. He has what it takes to challenge for a regular starting place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season.
At 22, the future looks quite promising for Branthwaite as long as he continues to improve with each year. He would also help the North London club compete across all fronts in the coming years. With all things considered, Branthwaite would be a great fit for Tottenham’s needs in the long run, so Frank should focus on snapping him up if he can get him for a reasonable fee this summer.
