Tottenham’s latest setback arrived with an uncomfortable familiarity, defeat on the pitch, uncertainty off it, and a squad still caught between recovery and fragility. The 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest exposed more than tactical shortcomings, it highlighted a group stretched by injury and reliant on a careful balancing act between urgency and patience.
The latest Spurs injury update only sharpens that sense of precariousness. While there are encouraging signs of players edging closer to returns, the list of absentees remains long enough to shape the narrative of Tottenham’s season.
Mathys Tel’s performance against Forest offered a glimpse of attacking intent, a rare spark in an otherwise difficult afternoon. Yet even that promise carried a cost. The forward limped off after 67 minutes, his involvement cut short by what appeared to be a muscular issue.
There was little clarity post match. Bruno Saltor, stepping in for Igor Tudor, provided only a cautious assessment.
“We are still assessing and will see if he can go with the [France] national team.”

This ambiguity reflects a broader pattern within Spurs’ injury situation. There is progress, but rarely certainty. Tel’s condition remains unclear, though there is hope that the upcoming international break offers enough time for recovery.
Elsewhere, there are small positives. Lucas Bergvall and Destiny Udogie both returned in the midweek win over Atletico Madrid, suggesting that the squad is gradually rebuilding its depth. Those returns feel significant, not simply for numbers, but for the tactical flexibility they restore.
If Tel’s injury is a developing concern, Guglielmo Vicario’s situation is more defined. The goalkeeper is set for surgery on a hernia, a procedure expected to sideline him for around a month.
The club confirmed the decision with a clear statement.
“We can confirm that Guglielmo Vicario will undergo surgery next week on a hernia.
“The minor procedure for the Italy international goalkeeper has been timed to have as minimal impact on our season as possible.

“Guglielmo will commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff immediately, and it is hoped that he could return to action within the next month.”
This absence introduces a different kind of challenge. Vicario has been a consistent presence, a figure of reliability in a season marked by inconsistency. His absence places greater responsibility on Antonin Kinsky, who now steps into a role that demands composure under pressure.
Timing, at least, offers some mitigation. The international break provides a natural window for recovery, reducing the number of fixtures Vicario is likely to miss. Yet in a campaign where margins feel increasingly narrow, even a short absence carries weight.
There is, however, a growing sense of cautious optimism around Mohammed Kudus. The winger has been sidelined since January with a hamstring injury, but his recovery appears to be progressing well.
Tudor’s comments suggest a player nearing readiness.
“We have these three big weeks after the game on Sunday.
“[Kudus will return for] probably some part of things with the squad, maybe in ten days? I’m not sure, we need to check, but he is progressing very well, already with the ball.
“We hope the medical staff will make us some nice surprise. It will be very, very, very important to have them.”

Kudus’ potential return aligns neatly with Tottenham’s schedule. A three week gap before the trip to Sunderland offers a rare opportunity for structured recovery and reintegration.
Rodrigo Bentancur follows a similar trajectory. Having undergone surgery after a hamstring injury, he is now edging closer to full training. Tudor’s update reinforces that sense of progress.
“[Mohammed Kudus will return for] probably some part of things with the squad, maybe in ten days? I’m not sure, we need to check, but he is progressing very well, already with the ball. Rodrigo [Bentancur]as well.”

These returns could prove pivotal. Tottenham’s midfield has often lacked control and continuity, qualities that both Kudus and Bentancur can provide.
Beyond the immediate concerns, there are deeper structural issues created by long term injuries. James Maddison remains sidelined after ACL surgery, though there is a growing sense that he may yet feature before the end of the season.
Tudor’s tone carries a note of guarded optimism.
“Maddison as well. We hope the medical staff will make us some nice surprise. It will be very, very, very important to have them.”
“Yes. Maddison is already doing interesting things with the ball, sprinting as well. I saw him, he’s positive.”

Even so, expectations must be managed. A return in May would likely arrive too late to significantly alter Tottenham’s league position, though it could offer a psychological lift.
Dejan Kulusevski’s situation remains more uncertain. His absence stretches back to last season, and there is still no clear timeline for his return.
“We hope so, in this moment we don’t know. He’s had really big problems. But he’s positive. And also, the doctors are positive. So we’ll see, next week, how it’s going.”
“No, not yet.”

These brief updates reflect a lingering ambiguity. Kulusevski’s rehabilitation continues, but without a defined endpoint.
Elsewhere, Wilson Odobert and Ben Davies represent longer term concerns. Odobert’s ACL injury rules him out until late 2026, while Davies faces a race against time to play again this season following an ankle fracture.
Yves Bissouma adds another layer of uncertainty. His recent absence has not been fully explained, leaving Tottenham hopeful that the international break provides enough time for recovery.
This Spurs injury latest update encapsulates the broader tension of Tottenham’s campaign. There is progress, but it unfolds unevenly. There are returns, but they are offset by fresh setbacks.
What emerges is a squad in transition, not simply between matches, but between states of fitness and readiness. The coming weeks, shaped by recovery timelines and cautious reintegration, will play a decisive role.
Tottenham’s survival hopes, their rhythm, and perhaps their identity, remain tied to the health of their squad. In that sense, the injury list is more than a medical report. It is a reflection of where the season stands, and where it might yet go.
