In a recent post on X, journalist Sebastien Vidal claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are locked in a three-way battle for Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo this summer. It is understood that Spurs are facing competition in the form of Chelsea and Liverpool in the race to land the Uruguay international this off-season.
Araujo missed a lot of games for Barca last season due to multiple injuries, but put in a series of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the pitch. The Uruguayan talent played in 25 matches for the Catalan outfit in the previous campaign, scoring two goals and picking up two assists in multiple competitions.
The 26-year-old has been a reliable presence at the back for Barcelona over the past few years. However, injuries have derailed his progress at the Nou Camp.
His current deal at the Catalan club will expire in the summer of 2031. Thus, Spurs would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about recruiting Araujo in this transfer window.

Araujo is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and excels at playing his way out from the back.
The Uruguay international is primarily a central defender but can also operate as a right-back if needed. He has got a wealth of experience at the highest level, but the jury is still out on whether he can cope with the high intensity of the Premier League.
We can expect Araujo to add more quality and depth to Tottenham boss Thomas Frank’s backline. He has what it takes to fight for regular first-team football at the North London club this season.
At 26, Araujo is about to enter his prime, which makes him a worthy target for Tottenham to consider in this summer transfer window. He will also help Spurs compete across all fronts in the coming years. He would be well worth the fight, so Tottenham should focus on recruiting him soon.
