Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly asked television companies not to call them ‘Tottenham’ on air.

Broadcasters have been referring to the north Londoners by that name for decades.

However, according to The Athletic, the club have requested to be referred to by their full name.

They stated: “Tottenham Hotspur have provided clarification regarding the club’s name.

“They have requested that the club are primarily known as Tottenham Hotspur, with Spurs being the preferred short version. The club have requested that they are not referred to as Tottenham.”

Not being called ‘Tottenham’ has been their official stance since 2011. But they wanted to remind companies following the remastering of their brand identity after Christmas.

The club aims to increase the global presence of the Tottenham Hotspur brand and wants to be referred to by their full name or just ‘Spurs’.

Whatever broadcasters choose to call them, the most important thing for fans will be to see their club name much higher in the Premier League table.

The Lilwhites picked up a morale-boosting victory over Manchester United last weekend, thanks to James Maddison’s goal.

However, their overall performances have been far from convincing this campaign, as they are currently 12th in the league standings.

Injuries have been one of the biggest issues, with Richarlison, Dominic Solanke, Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Radu Dragusin among the players sidelined with injuries.

Tottenham have also been eliminated from the FA Cup and League Cup, leaving the Europa League as their only hope for silverware this season.
