In a recent segment on Youtube, respected journalist Fabrizio Romano stated that Tottenham Hotspur remain keen on recruiting Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo this summer. Romano said,

“Cody Gakpo is a target for Tottenham. He’s a name I’ve been mentioning here several times for Tottenham Hotspur — I told you, keep an eye on Cody Gakpo, because Gakpo is a target for Tottenham.

They’ve had contacts with the agency representing Gakpo. Tottenham like the player and believe he could be the right addition for Roberto De Zerbi. Now it depends on the price. So these two stories — Barcola-Liverpool and Gakpo-Tottenham — really depend on the price, because Liverpool are not pushing Gakpo out. Liverpool are very happy with Cody Gakpo.”

Gakpo’s Inconsistent Season At Merseyside

Gakpo struggled to find consistency for Liverpool in the previous campaign, but managed to put in a run of impressive displays for them in the final third. The 27-year-old scored nine goals and grabbed six assists in 52 matches for the Reds last season on all fronts.

The Dutch talent is currently among the most talented wide players in the Premier League. Hence, it is no surprise that Spurs are trying to snap him up this summer.

His current contract at the Merseyside club will expire in 2030, which could make it tough for Tottenham to land him on the cheap later this year.

Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Roberto De Zerbi Get Gakpo On Board?

Gakpo can make a few driving runs with the ball out in the wide areas and has got the vision to create some decent chances for his teammates to score. He can shoot the ball with venom from long range and can contribute by scoring and creating a handful of important goals for his team.

The Dutch sensation is primarily a left-winger but can also fill in as a centre-forward if needed. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Tottenham.

We can expect Gakpo to bring more quality and depth to Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi’s frontline. He is good enough to fight for regular first-team football at the North London club.

At 27, Gakpo is about to enter his prime, which makes him a decent choice for Tottenham to consider this off-season. Thus, De Zerbi should focus on going all out to get him on board this summer.
