Tottenham Hotspur opened the new Premier League season in emphatic style as Thomas Frank secured his first victory in charge with a commanding 3-0 win over Burnley. Richarlison, often a figure of debate at Spurs, was the star of the show, scoring twice and reminding supporters of the quality that once made him one of the most exciting forwards in English football.
The Brazilian, who only managed four league goals last season, rediscovered his sharpness and confidence with a performance that set the tone for Frank’s tenure. Spurs fans had waited for a statement start under their new manager, and they got it, with Burnley unable to live with the energy and precision of the home side.
It took just ten minutes for Richarlison to mark the new era. Mohammed Kudus, signed from West Ham for £55m, made an instant impression on his league debut by creating space on the right and delivering a clever ball inside. Richarlison spun brilliantly before finishing on the turn, a goal that underlined the instinctive qualities Tottenham have long hoped to see more consistently.
The Brazilian then produced a moment that will live long in the memory. Kudus again was the provider, hanging up a cross from the byline. Richarlison launched himself into an acrobatic scissor kick, volleying home in stunning fashion. The stadium erupted as the goal was replayed again and again on the giant screens, with fans savouring every angle of the strike.

Burnley’s resistance never looked likely to last and Tottenham struck again midway through the second half. Richarlison was involved in the build-up before Pape Matar Sarr threaded a precise ball through to Brennan Johnson. The forward’s pace and composure did the rest, as he raced clear and finished clinically to make it 3-0.
Richarlison’s afternoon ended with a standing ovation in the 71st minute as he made way for new signing Dominic Solanke. The former Bournemouth striker almost added a fourth late on, dragging a shot narrowly wide, but by then Spurs had already delivered their message.
Thomas Frank, who left Brentford in June to replace Ange Postecoglou, could hardly have hoped for a smoother introduction. Postecoglou had departed just 16 days after guiding Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years, a Europa League final victory over Manchester United, but Frank has wasted no time in stamping his authority.
His Spurs side combined intensity with fluid attacking football, qualities that will encourage supporters who have long yearned for a balance of style and substance. Burnley, by contrast, struggled to impose themselves, finding Premier League life as testing as many predicted.
For Tottenham, this 3-0 victory was more than three points. It was a sign of ambition under a new manager determined to build on recent progress. Richarlison’s resurgence, Kudus’ instant impact and Johnson’s clinical finish all hinted at a team ready to push higher up the table.
Burnley will have easier assignments ahead, but this was a chastening afternoon against a side eager to prove that the Frank era has begun with conviction.
