Manchester City may be about to face a fresh transfer pursuit from north London as Tottenham reignite interest in Savinho, according to reports.

Savinho attracted strong interest from Tottenham in the summer as the north Londoners sought reinforcements in attack after star playmaker James Maddison suffered an ACL injury amidst a period of transition at the Etihad Stadium.

City underwent a major overhaul on and off the pitch in the summer as Hugo Viana replaced Txiki Begiristain as sporting director and rehashed Pep Guardiola’s ranks upon his arrival to the Etihad Stadium, signing seven new players and letting the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Ederson and Kyle Walker leave the club.

Guardiola has been overly reliant on Erling Haaland to provide the goods in front of goal since Julian Alvarez’s £82 million departure to Atletico Madrid in 2024, though the January signing of Omar Marmoush alleviated some of the burden on the Norwegian’s shoulders.

However, City need inspiration in attack to sustain their desire of winning major trophies this season as they challenge Arsenal for what would be a fifth Premier League crown in six years, having qualified for the Carabao Cup semi-final and taken a giant step towards the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 this month.

City are close to signing Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth in January, with Guardiola identifying the 25-year-old as a potent addition to his frontline and the Ghana international deciding to move to the north-west to fulfil his ambitions of winning major trophies.

Manchester City will be open to trimming their squad in January, with Borussia Dortmund in talks with the Blues over a loan for Oscar Bobb with a view to signing the 22-year-old winger on a permanent basis next summer.

City have also received interest in Savinho, who has not been a regular starter this season and faces greater competition in the wide attacking areas as the Blues put the final touches on their statement capture of Semenyo from Bournemouth.

Manchester City were open to offers for Savinho in the summer, when the 21-year-old Brazilian was left unsure of his long-term prospects under Guardiola despite amassing over 3,000 first-team minutes in his debut season in England. Tottenham submitted a £70 million offer for Savinho in August, which was turned down by executives in east Manchester.

According to the information of talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, Tottenham are now readying a fresh approach for Savinho – hoping that the pending arrival of Semenyo at the Etihad Stadium will change the club’s stance over a potential sale for the former.

However, the report insists that it is unlikely that Guardiola’s Premier League title-chasing outfit will sanction departures for both Bobb – who is now widely expected to leave the club – and Savinho in the same market.

Bobb is expected to leave Manchester City on loan in January, with Sevilla and Atletico Madrid also interested in the winger. Despite Guardiola’s long-held desire of working with a tight-knit group, the Blues need to retain ample depth in attack to sustain their aspirations of contesting for silverware of several fronts as they enter the second half of the season.
