Tottenham were forced to dig deep in a breathless Champions League clash at the Aspmyra Stadion, twice coming from behind to earn a 2–2 draw against Bodo/Glimt.
The home side were the brighter of the two from the off, spurred on by a lively crowd and their pursuit of a first win at this level.
Kasper Hogh squandered a golden chance to put them in front midway through the first half, sending a penalty sailing over the bar after Rodrigo Bentancur had clumsily brought down Fredrik Bjørkan. It was a reprieve Spurs scarcely deserved after a sluggish opening 45 minutes.
That let-off didn’t last long. Ten minutes into the second period, Jens Petter Hauge cut inside from the left and bent a clever finish beyond Guglielmo Vicario to give the Norwegian champions the advantage.
The north London side thought they had replied instantly when Bentancur flicked in from close range, only to see the flag raised for offside.
Undeterred, Bodo struck again just after the hour. Capitalising on a loose touch from Djed Spence, Hauge pounced, skipped past a challenge and rifled in his second of the night to make it 2-0.
The game looked to be slipping away, but Spurs finally roused themselves. Within moments, Micky van de Ven powered in a header from a Pedro Porro cross to halve the deficit and shift the momentum.
From then on, Thomas Frank’s men were the ones asking the questions. Mohammed Kudus almost levelled late on, seeing his header crash off the woodwork, before Wilson Odobert went close. At the other end, Andreas Helmersen struck the post for Bodo, keeping the tension high right to the end.
Tottenham’s persistence was rewarded with just minutes remaining, when Wilson Odobert’s cross forced Jostein Gundersen into turning the ball into his own net. After a lengthy VAR check, the goal stood, ensuring the visitors escaped with a point from a contest they could easily have lost.
Both sides will reflect on missed opportunities, but Spurs will be the happier given how poorly they started.
