Tottenham boss Thomas Frank has revealed that striker Dominic Solanke is “progressing well” after undergoing ankle surgery, while Randal Kolo Muani is set to return against Aston Villa this weekend.

Solanke had a minor procedure last month to repair a persistent issue first suffered during pre-season, scuppering hopes of a comeback before the international break.

Frank has been encouraged by Solanke’s progress since then, though is unsure exactly when he will be available for selection again having yet to resume team training.

“Dom's progressed well after the surgery,” Frank said. “Been on pitch, actually I don't know if it was today, but it definitely was the two days before that. So the detail is he's progressing and going forward, so that's good.

"The good thing is it's positive, he's progressing now. But he's still training on his own. I don't want to be too excited or too negative either way, so I'm actually taking it a little bit day-by-day and week-by-week to see how quick he progresses.

“Dom is naturally a fit player, there's some players that naturally get fitness up to a high level. But of course we also need to take into consideration he basically hasn't trained with the team since July.

“But that's not to say it will take three months to get up to pace. It's just it will take a little bit of time to get up to pace. How long, I don't know.”

Though Solanke remains absent, Tottenham’s attacking options will be bolstered against Villa by the return of Paris Saint-Germain loanee Kolo Muani, who has made just one appearance off the bench for his new club so far after a dead leg that took longer than expected to heal.

“Kolo Muani trained now for two weeks with the team,” Frank said. “So that's good. He looks better and better. He will be in contention for the squad for [Sunday]. That's positive.”

Frank also provided an update on Spurs midfielder Yves Bissouma, whose nightmare season continued last weekend as he was stretchered off just seconds into his first appearance of the campaign for Mali in a World Cup qualifier against Madagascar.

“A ligament injury to his ankle that will keep him out for weeks,” Frank confirmed.

Tottenham are still missing Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison, the latter of whom is hoping to return from an anterior cruciate ligament injury before the end of the season.

Defenders Radu Dragusin and Kota Takai have both been building fitness of late after injury and could soon be available for Spurs.
