Tottenham Hotspur host Newcastle United in the Premier League this weekend.
Ange Postecoglou is under pressure with Spurs’ season slipping away from them. The North Londoners have won just three of their last 13 games and sit closer to the relegation places than top four.
Injuries have decimated Postecoglou’s squad and the Australian is without much of his first-choice backline. January offers a chance to invest, as Spurs look to turn around their fortunes.
Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off brings the visit of an in-form Newcastle. The Magpies are on a run of four consecutive wins and clean sheets. Eddie Howe’s side have climbed to fifth over the festive period and are targeting Champions League qualification for the second time in three seasons.
Ange Postecoglou’s problems continue to pile up with Destiny Udogie the latest to join the absentee list. The left-back is facing around six weeks out with a hamstring issue. Spurs have just three fit full-backs and their injury crisis could hand a lifeline to Sergio Reguilon. Postecoglou has made clear the Spaniard is not in his plans but has afforded Reguilon two substitute appearances in recent games.
At his pre-match press conference, Postecoglou confirmed Mikey Moore and Richarlison are edging closer to returns.
“Richarlison and Mikey [Moore] are the two next cabs off the rank – hopefully next week at some point. Ben [Davies], [Micky] Van de Ven and [Cristian] Romero all kind of the same time which is the back end of January.”
Tottenham predicted XI: Forster; Porro, Gray, Dragusin, Spence; Kulusevski, Sarr, Maddison; Johnson, Solanke, Son.
