There was more good news for Spurs on Wednesday with the return of three key players.

Conor Gallagher was back in action after recovering from a virus that had worsened due to asthma, while Destiny Udogie and Lucas Bergvall both stepped off the bench after their respective injury lay-offs.

Udogie had been out with a hamstring problem that he suffered against Manchester United, while Bergvall was making his first appearance since having ankle surgery.

Cristian Romero was also back in the centre of defence against Atletico, having recovered from concussion.

Spurs still had several absentees from their matchday squad, including Dominic Solanke, who missed out completely.

Joao Palhinha was another to sit out as he continued his recovery from concussion, while Yves Bissouma was ruled out with a muscular injury.

Longer-term misses include Wilson Odobert, James Maddison and Ben Davies, all of whom are unlikely to feature again this term.

Mohammed Kudus and Rodrigo Bentancur could make comebacks from their respective quad and hamstring problems, while Dejan Kulusevski’s patella issue continues to keep him out.
