More now on Chelsea’s interest in Granit Xhaka.
Standard Sport was among the outlets to report yesterday that the Blues were interested in a shock summer deal for the ex-Arsenal captain, but had yet to hold talks with Sunderland.
It is being widely reported that Xhaka wants to reunite with former Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso at Stamford Bridge and has expressed his desire to return to London, three years after an eventful seven-season stint with the Gunners came to an end.
Fabrizio Romano now claims that an agreement on personal terms between Xhaka and Chelsea is “guaranteed”.
He says the 33-year-old is driving the move personally, though Sunderland do not wish to sell their captain.
It will be up to Chelsea to convince their Premier League rivals to part ways with Xhaka, who has led Switzerland into the World Cup knockout stages.
There may just be a sizable new twist in the Yan Diomande to Liverpool transfer stakes.
The Reds are very eager indeed to follow their surprise £34.5m signing of Spain winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna with a big-money deal for Ivory Coast’s teenage star as they retool their attacking options under new head coach Andoni Iraola.
However, so far negotiations have proved frustrating with RB Leipzig, who are said to be holding out for a fee well in excess of £100m for their top asset.
According to El Debate in Spain, Real Madrid have now entered the race for Diomande as they strengthen their own squad following a disappointing season and Jose Mourinho’s high-profile return to the Bernabeu.
Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be in the running for the 19-year-old, who has helped guide his country into the World Cup round of 32.
As they fight Manchester United for Mateus Fernandes, Tottenham are reportedly preparing a huge offer for Sandro Tonali.
Spurs are desperate to significantly strengthen throughout their squad this summer for a first full season under head coach Roberto De Zerbi, having recorded back-to-back woeful 17th-place finishes in the Premier League and only escaped a disastrous relegation on the final day of last season at West Ham’s expense.
They have already bolstered their defence hugely with the signings of Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke, while veteran goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is also joining next week.
Attentions are now seriously turning to midfield, with TEAMtalk reporting that Tottenham are preparing a massive second bid for Tonali worth a club-record £100m after seeing an initial £75m approach snubbed by Newcastle.
Germany star Felix Nmecha could leave Borussia Dortmund for St James’ Park for £50m as Tonali’s replacement, though he’s also been linked with Manchester United and Liverpool.
Manchester United are once again seemingly stepping up their efforts to land Mateus Fernandes.
The Red Devils appear locked in a fierce battle with Tottenham for the West Ham midfielder, with both clubs also in pursuit of Bruno Guimaraes’ Newcastle team-mate Sandro Tonali.
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, United are now firmly back in the race for Fernandes and have made fresh contact with the player’s camp this weekend.
They are apparently willing to improve their contract offer to the 21-year-old, who is currently away at the World Cup with Portugal.
United are believed to be planning new talks with West Ham in a bid to beat Spurs to ex-Southampton man Fernandes.
Granit Xhaka wants to join Chelsea this summer, reports claim.
Standard Sport understands that the Blues are interested in a shock deal for the ex-Arsenal captain in this transfer window.
However, talks have not yet taken place with Sunderland, who do not want to sell their own influential skipper.
Fabrizio Romano states that Xhaka, who turns 34 in September, very much wants to reunite with former Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso at Stamford Bridge and has expressed a keen desire to return to London.

Arsenal appear to have received a significant boost in their high-profile pursuit of Bruno Guimaraes.
The Gunners are long-time admirers of the influential Newcastle captain, having apparently seen an opening bid worth £55m rejected earlier this week.
Arsenal are now believed to be preparing a second offer for Guimaraes, who is currently away at the World Cup with Brazil.
According to TEAMtalk, the reigning Premier League champions have held extensive talks with the player’s camp in recent weeks and received “all the encouragement they need” with regards to their transfer ambitions.
FootballTransfers also claim that Guimaraes’ team have given the “green light” for Arsenal to push for a deal with Newcastle.
