United rule out Martinez and Jackson over price

Manchester United have reportedly ruled out moves for Emi Martinez and Nicolas Jackson, with the club deeming each player’s asking price to be too high.

The Red Devils are in the market for a new striker, with Ollie Watkins said to be top of their list, and are also looking to freshen up between the posts.

United have already seen a loan proposal for Aston Villa goalkeeper Martinez rejected this summer.

According to The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell, they’ve now decided that the Argentine and Chelsea’s Senegalese frontman Jackson are not worth the fees demanded by their respective clubs.

Joining Watkins on Ruben Amorim’s wish list, Whitwell reports, is RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko. United believe a deal for Waktins could be done for £40-45million, versus £69-78m for Sesko.

Eddie Howe has confirmed that Newcastle have not received any offers for Alexander Isak.

The striker has not travelled with the squad for their pre-season tour, having told the club last week he wants to explore a summer move.

"He is still our player,” Howe said.

“He’s contracted to us. We, to a degree, control what is next for him. I would love to believe all possibilities are still available to us.

“My wish is that he stays, but that’s not in my full control.”

Frank issues Son update amid transfer talk

Thomas Frank insists Tottenham captain Heung-min Son will have a "very good role" at the club next season despite transfer speculation over his future.

Son has been at Spurs for a decade and in May became the first captain of the club to lift a European trophy for 41 years with the Europa League triumph.

There have been suggestions that both Spurs and Son are ready to part ways, allowing the player to go out on a high after ending a long trophy drought, and MLS side LAFC have been heavily credited with interest.

"I think first and foremost, Son's legacy here is remarkable," Frank told Men In Blazers. "He's been a fantastic player for Tottenham, he is a fantastic player for Tottenham.

"I see a player that that can play a very good role here next season. He's come in, very good mindset, trained very hard, pushed the players. So I'm excited about it."
