With that in mind, here are ten high-profile moves you need to watch out for next week.

PSG playing hard ball with Liverpool

Paris Saint-Germain’s eye-watering £145 million valuation of forward Bradley Barcola has thrown a spanner in Liverpool’s summer transfer plans.

The Reds are reportedly willing to pay £100m for the winger, but PSG are adamant that their asking price must be met.

Given that Manchester City paid £116m for Elliot Anderson this summer, it is easy to see why the European champions are playing hardball.

Elsewhere, Man City are striving to reach an agreement to sign Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi after reaching a verbal agreement with him.

City want the 18-year-old to join immediately, but Lille believe his development would be better served by spending another year in France.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is still ongoing, although the clubs are now close to agreeing a fee.

Real Madrid are expected to make an offer for Man City star Rodri, while teammate Omar Marmoush is attracting interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Premier League transfer gravy train continues apace

At the start of 2026, the combined market valuation of Premier League squads was almost two-and-a-half times more than La Liga.

Judging by the business conducted during the early part of this summer’s transfer window, the gap looks destined to widen.

Premier League clubs have already spent more than £1.4 billion (as of July 27) and are well on course to set a new expenditure record this summer.

Intriguingly, the biggest deals have involved clubs from the so-called ‘Big Six’ plucking players from lower down the perceived food chain.

Morgan Rogers (Villa to Chelsea, £117m), Anderson (Nottingham Forest to Man City, £116m) and Sandro Tonali (Newcastle to Tottenham, £92.5m) each fit that description.

Restrictive financial rules are making it increasingly difficult for ambitious clubs such as Villa to break the glass ceiling in the Premier League.

Further moves of this nature are guaranteed to be completed over the next month, continuing a trend which is not particularly healthy for competitive balance.

Palace star could be one to watch

Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton was touted for a big-money move this summer, but nothing has developed to date.

His options amongst the ‘Big Six’ clubs have gradually diminished, with only Liverpool and Chelsea now classed as realistic destinations.

Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones both face uncertain futures at Liverpool, and an exit for either player could help them to fund a move for Wharton.

However, several pundits have questioned whether the former Blackburn Rovers star is the ideal stylistic fit for manager Andoni Iraola.

Working under Xabi Alonso at Chelsea would be a far more sensible route for Wharton. However, the presence of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo complicates matters.

Fernandez has been tipped to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, which would clear the way for Chelsea to step up their interest in Wharton.

A central pairing of Caicedo and Wharton would be the perfect blend of grit and craft. The Palace star’s situation is undoubtedly worth monitoring over the next few weeks.
