A new era will officially begin at The Hawthorns on Saturday, as Ryan Mason leads his Albion side into his first competitive fixture as Baggies boss.

His team will face a stern test to kick this new dawn off too, as Blackburn Rovers enter the 2025/26 season in superb pre-season form, and fresh off the back of a late Championship resurgence under Valerien Ismael that almost saw them sneak into the play-offs last term.

It's just one of a host of fascinating opening weekend games in the second tier, with both teams looking to start the new campaign with a bang.

So, how does Deeney think the game will play out at The Hawthorns?

"I'm going to go for a draw in that game. I'm going to go for a Desmond, 2-2."

Saturday's game between Albion and Rovers will kick-off at 3pm.

When attempting to work out which team will defeat the other, turning to the history books and the data sheets can often be a very useful tool.

Granted - and as the old saying goes - football isn't played on paper, and history books are titled as such to reflect its contents - things that have happened in the past, and so may not be relevant in the present anymore.

However, for those willing to turn the pages of West Brom's tale of Championship results at The Hawthorns, they'll find some compelling numbers that don't make for particularly enthusing reading if you are of a Blackburn persuasion.

Indeed, Albion's worst season on home soil since their return to the Championship in 21/22 was when they lost five games at The Hawthorns over the course of the 22/23 campaign.

In the one season before that and the two that have since followed, the Baggies have lost just four home league games over the course of a season on two occasions, whilst only falling to three defeats at their historic home in the 21/22 term.

To put that in simpler terms, there aren't many less charitable places to play football as an opposition side in the second tier than a trip to The Hawthorns.
