Aston Villa’s frustrating start to the Premier League season has stirred unease among supporters, but inside the club, the message is one of calm, calling on fans to trust that things will improve.

Saturday’s goalless draw at Everton stretched Villa’s run without a goal to four league matches, leaving them winless and languishing near the foot of the table. For many, it has felt like a jarring reversal of the progress made under Unai Emery. But in a pointed message on social media, the club’s director of football operations, Damian Vidagany, urged patience.

A point that doesn’t shine, yes, we need goals, of course they will come… but a point that strengthens us and our spirit,” he wrote on X. “The first stone of a magnificent construction never attracts the attention of spectators. But it’s very necessary.

A Call for Perspective

Vidagany’s intervention is notable, both in timing and tone. It acknowledges the frustration of fans while attempting to steady nerves, appealing to memory and perspective. Since Emery’s appointment in November 2022, Villa have returned to Europe for the first time in over a decade, reaching a Europa Conference League semi-final and last season’s Champions League quarter-finals. “Three amazing years,” as Vidagany reminded supporters, deserve credit when measuring the present struggles.

The upcoming fixtures against Brentford in the Carabao Cup and Sunderland in the league present an opportunity to change the narrative. But even if goals remain elusive, the club hierarchy is asking fans to look beyond the short-term noise. As Vidagany put it, “If you want to help, as you the fans are the real owners of the Villa… let me remind you that in football there are good times and not good times.”
