TSG sign Leo Østigård on loan from Stade Rennes | OneFootball

Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim have signed Norwegian international Leo Østigård from French Ligue 1 club Stade Rennes. The centre-back joins the Kraichgau club on loan until the end of the current season. Østigård's contract at Rennes runs until 30 June 2027.

"In Leo, we have found a centre-back with the qualities we were looking for in the final stretch of the winter transfer period," said Andreas Schicker, Managing Director of Sport at TSG. "Despite his young age, he is already an internationally experienced player who has already played at the highest level in England, but above all in France and Italy. During his time at SSC Napoli, Leo became Italian champion in the 2022/2023 season and became a regular in Serie A last season. Leo has also been a regular at Stade Rennes this season. He is an uncompromising defender who doesn't shy away from a duel. That's why we're convinced that Leo will give our game the stability we need."

Leo Østigård moved from historic Italian club SSC Napoli to French top-tier side Stade Rennes in July 2024. In the current season, the 25-year-old centre-back has played a total of 18 competitive matches for the French side in Ligue 1 and the French Cup (one goal). In the two years prior to that, Østigård made 43 competitive appearances for Napoli side in Serie A, the Coppa Italia and the Champions League (three goals). In the 2022/2023 season, the Norwegian was even able to celebrate winning the Italian title with Napoli. Back in 2019/2020, the Scandinavian gained his first experience of professional football in Germany when he was loaned to FC St. Pauli by English club Brighton & Hove Albion. He played 29 competitive matches for the Hamburg club in Bundesliga 2 and the DFB-Pokal (one goal).

Østigård made his debut for the Norwegian national team in a match against Slovakia in March 2022 and has since made 28 appearances (one goal). The centre-back represented his country at every youth level.
