An official Newcastle United injury update was put out on Tuesday night, ahead of the Manchester City match.

Eddie Howe very open as he prepares for this upcoming Premier League match on Saturday

The NUFC Head Coach was inducted last night into the Newcastle United Hall of Fame at the Newcastle United Foundation annual awards dinner and spoke (see below) to BBC Newcastle about the fitness and availability ahead of the next game.

Eddie Howe stating that Nick Pope and Sandro Tonali have no issues and are set to be available, whilst Yoane Wissa definitely won’t be involved, nor it seems will Tino Livramento be in the matchday squad.

The United boss appearing to indicate (to me anyway) that Lewis Hall will be available, whilst Howe said it was ‘touch and go’ with Anthony Gordon.

Now on Wednesday, Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has confirmed that all three of Nick Pope, Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali were training today. This seemingly rubber stamping what Eddie Howe said about Pope and Tonali in terms of availability, whilst I was of the opinion last night that the Head Coach was maybe being a bit coy about Gordon and his likely availability. The fact he was training today, I think surely points strongly towards him being up for selection on Saturday. Having these couple of weeks with no matches won’t have done him any harm in my opinion, in terms of getting himself right.

Eddie Howe talking to Matthew Raisbeck of BBC Newcastle – 18 November 2025:

“I know a lot of your players aren’t back yet, but would you be able to update us on the fitness of a couple?

“Anthony Gordon didn’t go away with England, Nick Pope as well.

“And there had been some reports about Sandro Tonali maybe not being one hundred per cent fit because he didn’t play in Italy’s second game?”

Eddie Howe:

“We have a bit of a mixed bag.

“Anthony [Gordon] we will wait and see, it will be touch and go for the [Manchester City] game.

“Sandro [Tonali] should be fine.

“Nick [Pope] had concussion but he has passed the protocols there, so he should be fine.

“We have still got a few who we are nursing back.

“Tino Livramento, Lewis Hall in the early stages – although he has made a couple of really good appearances.

“Yoane Wissa is still out but starting to up his work now.

“So yeah, we are looking in a healthier place.”

My thoughts

Great news that Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon Nick Pope are all involved in training today.

The likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Lewis Hall, Lewis Miley and Emil Krafth were all playing yesterday, so wouldn’t have been training today with the rest of the NUFC squad.

I am assuming that Thursday will see all of the Newcastle United squad at the training ground, as preparations really ramp up for Saturday. Eddie Howe evaluating not just the form of players on the training pitch but also how they are physically, especially those who have been on international duty.

From Man City on Saturday (22 November) and up to and including Chelsea at home on Saturday 20 December, there are nine Newcastle matches in that four week period, so Eddie Howe won’t be taking any unnecessary risks with so many games and as many players as possible needed.
