According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the Tunisian Football Federation has decided to dismiss head coach Sabri Lamouchi hours after a 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their Group F opener in Monterrey, Mexico. Lamouchi was appointed in January 2026, replacing Sami Trabelsi after elimination at the Africa Cup of Nations.

He oversaw five matches, recording one win, 1-0 against Haiti, one draw and three defeats.

After the Sweden game he accepted his side had presented a poor image, describing the defeat as difficult and painful and saying such a start is really hard. He added they made too many mistakes and were hurting themselves.

For the next two World Cup fixtures, on Saturday 20 June against Japan in Monterrey, then the Netherlands five days later in Kansas City, Mondher Kebaier could step in. He is already in Monterrey as the federation’s technical director, while assistant Wahib Khazri does not hold the required coaching certificates.
