AC Milan are interested in signing Maxim De Cuyper from Club Brugge, a report claims, but they face competition from rivals Juventus.
As Tuttosport recall, De Cuyper is now part of the Belgian national team and has already faced both Atalanta and Juventus in the Champions League this season. The Bianconeri had the opportunity to see him at work up close on January 21, and they liked what they saw.
Cristiano Giuntoli – Juve’s sporting director – certainly didn’t need a first-hand look to get to know the left-back, given he was already aware of his growth. Thus, he is a concrete option if Andrea Cambiaso were to leave in the summer transfer window.
However, there are obstacles for the Bianconeri and the first one is Milan, who have already identified De Cuyper as the potential heir to Theo Hernandez. The Rossoneri are in a state of flux at the moment though, waiting for a new director (likely to be Fabio Paratici) to begin full planning.
The 24-year-old also has a market abroad, in particular in the Premier League (Manchester United are still lurking) and the Bundesliga (RB Leipzig in pole position). De Cuyper costs between €20-25m at the moment, therefore a significant figure but not huge for a talent who could take off.
In the event of Cambiaso’s departure, Juventus will look at De Cuyper but could also turn to other international profiles. One already talked about for January is Fran Garcia at Real Madrid, who could leave the Spanish capital and has just a €2.5m net salary.
