Tuttosport: Why Conceicao mentioning Allegri was ‘not a coincidence’

The Coppa Italia final – which will be played on May 14 in Rome – has a consequence: putting on hold any discussion about the future of AC Milan.
This is true regarding both the question of the sporting director and the head coach. On the first front, contacts between Giorgio Furlani and the candidates continue and the CEO spoke about the matter live in Milan on April 19 with Ibrahimovic and especially Gerry Cardinale, who was in the city.
As for the coach, it is about 90% sure – but no longer the 99% of a few weeks ago – that Sergio Conceicao will leave. The paradox is that when the Portuguese coach was angry about the rumours of his possible dismissal, the results actually did not arrive.
Today the situation is slightly different. Of course, Milan are still ninth in the table, but in the league they are trying to find consistency and above all they have a chance to earn a second trophy this season after a 4-1 aggregate derby win.
The pitch is now giving positive indications overall (including the new 3-4-3 system), while the club verbally have expressed satisfaction about Conceiçao’s work (Geoffrey Moncada before the Venezia game), but he is the one who is distancing himself.
Last week before the derby Conceiçao spoke about his situation in a way that suggested he will spill the beans in a few weeks: “How am I? It’s a complex question, not trivial. I’ll talk about these things at the end of the season.”
After Sunday’s victory, he added: “In a month or so I too will say what I want, it’s possible that I too have other thoughts, like going on holiday to the Algarve. But now let’s think about the championship, about winning against Bologna. Then what happens to me, to Allegri or others, doesn’t concern me. Why Allegri? Because people always talk about him.”
Allegri’s name was evidently not mentioned by chance: he has been one of the possible candidates for the job for months even if there have been no official contacts. The former Juventus and Milan coach is free from contract too, though the sporting director must come first.
