Bristol City got their Championship campaign off to a flying start with a thumping 4–1 win away at Sheffield United, stunning last season’s beaten play-off finalists at Bramall Lane.

Scott Twine needed just five minutes to make his mark, bending a superb free-kick beyond Michael Cooper to put the visitors ahead.

The Blades, rocked by the early setback, levelled on 14 minutes when Tyrese Campbell slotted home from close range after Callum O’Hare’s neat pass.

Parity lasted barely a quarter of an hour. A swift counter saw Twine turn provider, slipping the ball to Ross McCrorie, who fired low into the far corner to restore City’s advantage.

After the break, the visitors turned the screw. Barely seconds into the second half, Emil Riis teed up Anis Mehmeti to calmly finish from the centre of the box.

Just five minutes later, Twine grabbed his second of the afternoon, reacting quickest in a crowded penalty area after McCrorie’s pass.

From there, Gerhard Struber’s side managed the game superbly, frustrating the hosts and limiting them to half-chances. Radek Vítek, making a big impression in goal, pulled off a superb save to deny Sydie Peck late on.

Sheffield United’s frustration boiled over in stoppage time, with a series of fouls and missed opportunities compounding their misery.

Anis Mehmeti nearly added a fifth with a curling free-kick, but the ball sailed just wide.

The final whistle confirmed a dream start for Bristol City, who left Bramall Lane with three points, four goals, and a serious statement of intent.
