It is that time of the year when Barcelona begin to prepare for their pre-season tour and hit the ground running for their new campaign.

With no international tournament having been scheduled in recent weeks, Hansi Flick will have a full-strength side at his disposal from day 1.

Before taking the flight to Asia, however, the manager faces a serious dilemma as he has to pick a set of just 26 players who can make the squad for the tour.

Given that he plans to hand several young players their debut, he must first decide on veterans who will not travel because they are out of his plans.

That decision, however, is anything but easy given the long season ahead and the serious need for depth across the field.

Two players who will be omitted

As relayed by Jijantes FC in a recent report, Flick has decided on two senior players who will not travel with the team to Asia – Pau Victor and Oriol Romeu. Both stars will stay back in Catalonia and work out their future instead.

With Marcus Rashford arriving as a much-needed boost in attack, Victor is set to have very little prominence next season.

After all, the manager reportedly sees both Ferran Torres and Dani Olmo as players who can play as a nine, thus leaving little scope for Victor.

Valencia have emerged as serious candidates to sign the young forward, and it remains to be seen if a deal can be struck in the coming days.

Romeu, meanwhile, has been out of Barcelona’s plans for a while now and even spent last season on loan at Girona, albeit to little success.

He is once again planning his departure, with both Valencia and Girona interested in securing his services as it stands.

Barcelona do not rule out mutually terminating his contract if that is what it takes to get the midfielder off their books.

A transfer, however, would work out better for them, for it would bring some monetary return for the squad player.
