France, one of the big World Cup favorites, have announced their squad for the 2026 World Cup. With Michael Olise and Dayot Upamecano, two FC Bayern professionals are also in Didier Deschamps‘ final squad
The French national team coach presented his 26-man squad for the tournament in the USA, Mexico and Canada on Thursday evening. As expected, the Équipe Tricolore will be led by superstar Kylian Mbappé
Alongside the Real Madrid star, Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué and Rayan Cherki are among the most prominent attacking names in the squad

For Michael Olise in particular, the nomination is confirmation of an outstanding season at FC Bayern
The 24-year-old was one of the absolute difference-makers in Munich and was recently named the best French player abroad by the French players‘ union UNFP
With his strong performances, Olise has finally played his way into the international elite – now he is set to lead France to the title at the World Cup
Dayot Upamecano also received Didier Deschamps‘ vote of confidence, as expected. Despite minor injury problems this season, the central defender remains a permanent fixture in the French defense
The absence of Eduardo Camavinga, on the other hand, is causing discussion
The Real Madrid midfielder had recently been heavily tipped as a possible World Cup candidate, but did not make the final squad in the end
Deschamps justified the decision with Camavinga’s difficult season: „He is coming off a tough season with lots of injuries and not enough playing time.“
The French national coach also made it clear that the squad was not put together solely on the basis of individual quality: „It’s about balance and combinations.“
In terms of individual quality, France is once again one of the top favorites for the World Cup title
The Equipe Tricolore has enormous quality and depth, especially in attack
Strikingly, only two current Bundesliga professionals, Michael Olise and Dayot Upamecano, are in the French squad
With a total of five players, PSG have the biggest block in the squad
France start the tournament against Senegal on June 16, before facing Iraq and Norway in the group stage.
