Carlos Augusto and Davide Frattesi have been clear backups since Inter appointed Christian Chivu. While the former has exploited his opportunities when called upon, the latter is having a lackluster campaign. The Brazilian fullback backs up both Federico Dimarco and Alessandro Bastoni. The team doesn’t skip a beat when he’s in the line-up. Even though he already has a long-term contract, until 2028, the management is plotting to offer him a renewal. The parties have started talking. His salary could rise to €3.5M.

While Carlos Augusto has fared well, Frattesi has struggled to produce at the same level as in his previous Inter seasons. His role has always been spotty, but he generally managed to make the most of his minutes. It hasn’t been the case so far, as he hasn’t scored in his ten appearances.

The midfielder has never lacked suitors. He’ll have a €16.4M financial cost in January, so it wouldn’t be hard to turn a profit on him. The hierarchy promised him an extension after holding onto him again in the summer, but there has been no progress there.

They would be regular starters in most teams, especially the former. As long as he’s happy playing second fiddle, they are in a great spot, as he’s extremely useful. Instead, the midfielder doesn’t seem to have clicked with Christian Chivu, and he’s been one of the only players in that regard. The opportunity is knocking with Henrikh Mkhitaryan out for a while, but he hasn’t earned it. After much speculation in previous windows, the time might be ripe for his departure.
