The two German teams faced off at the Allianz Arena for the first leg, with Vincent Kompany’s men emerging as dominant winners. The ever-reliable England skipper Harry Kane scored twice with Jamal Musiala also finding the net. Nordi Mukiele was dismissed for the visitors shortly after the hour mark killing off any hope of a Leverkusen trademark comeback.
Despite winning the Europa League last season and being just eight points behind league leaders Bayern in the Bundesliga, Xabi Alonso’s side were completely torn apart in the Bavarian capital.
Bayern are now charging towards the Champions League quarter-finals after surviving an almighty scare from Celtic in the knockout stage playoffs. The German giants will likely meet Serie A table toppers Inter in the last eight of the competition. The I Nerazzurri impressively defeated Feyenoord 2-0 in Netherlands last night.
A stoppage time equaliser last month from Alphonso Davies was needed to spare the Bayern from extra time against the Scottish champions.
