UEFA has opened a disciplinary case after allegations that Benfica winger Gianluca Prestianni directed racist remarks at Real Madrid forward Vinicius during Tuesday’s Champions League tie, which Madrid won 1-0.

UEFA confirmed that it is investigating a potential breach of its disciplinary regulations and has appointed a disciplinary inspector to examine claims of discriminatory behaviour during the 2025-26 Champions League knockout play-off between Benfica and Real Madrid on 17 February 2026.

The inspector will seek testimony and other evidence to establish whether the remarks were made towards Vinicius.

If the facts are proven, the Argentine could be banned for at least 10 matches.

The investigation was announced on Wednesday.
