The Telegraph reports that UEFA has sent a legal notice to Gianni Infantino and figures linked to the shelved FIFA Forward Enterprise, FFE, a plan to open parts of FIFA’s commercial business, the World Cup included, to private investors.
In a letter to Infantino, UEFA is said to be considering legal proceedings, arbitration and complaints to regulators over the matter. Similar notices are understood to have reached prospective FFE partners, among them American businessman Joshua Kushner, TripAdvisor president Greg Maffei and JP Morgan.
UEFA is also said to have instructed FIFA and its president to preserve all documents and electronic data linked to the case, to guard against the destruction or alteration of material that could be relevant. Any deletion or concealment could be treated as destruction of evidence.
The European body considers the initiative incompatible with good governance in football.
The move comes a day after the project was abandoned on Saturday, following strong opposition within European football.
