FC Bayern is determined to sell Joao Palhinha this summer. Several clubs have expressed interest, but no team is currently willing to meet Bayern’s asking price of up to 25 million euros. Benfica has now issued an ultimatum to FC Bayern.
It’s no secret that the Portuguese club is interested in the midfielder. Talks with FC Bayern have already taken place, but Benfica cannot afford 25 million euros. According to CNN Portugal, however, the storied club remains in the running, isn’t giving up, and intends to try everything possible.
According to the report, Benfica has now submitted a final offer to FC Bayern. In addition, the Portuguese club expects a response from the record champions by Sunday. This is a clear deadline in the negotiations and suggests that time is running out for Benfica.
No wonder, as the Portuguese club is naturally hoping to have its roster more or less in place ahead of its first competitive match.

According to the report, the exact structure of the deal is not entirely clear. However, it is most likely a loan with a subsequent option to buy or an obligation to buy. That is not clear at this point. A loan is exactly what FC Bayern did not want.
After all, Palhinha has already agreed to a pay cut. He is therefore willing to forgo part of his annual salary. The player himself is aware of the offer Benfica has made him and would accept it. It therefore depends solely on whether Bayern and Benfica can reach an agreement—which, given the current discrepancy in the Portuguese player’s valuation, will be anything but easy.
Perhaps those in Munich are also hoping to negotiate with the English side on Friday during the friendly match against Aston Villa. The Birmingham-based team is also considered a contender to sign Palhinha.
