Valencia return from the international break to a pivotal home game against Celta Vigo, with attention on whether Unai Núñez can face his parent club. A win would cut the gap to the Europa League to three points, with Celta currently setting that marker.

For Núñez it is a reunion with his owners. The defender is on loan at Valencia, having been at Hellas Verona earlier this season, and COPE reports that the deal contains no clause barring him from facing Claudio Giráldez’s side.

Given his recent form, it would be hard for Corberán to leave him out. Núñez has slotted in quickly, covering both centre-back and right-back amid absences. After the win in Seville, Corberán highlighted his versatility in both roles.

Valencia’s defensive uptick has underpinned their improved results. Núñez, Cömert and César Tárrega have stepped up, and Corberán has used the Núñez-Cömert pairing with success, while also turning to Tárrega alongside the Swiss with Núñez at right-back.

Celta’s attacking threat makes selection another puzzle for Corberán. What does appear clear is that the three centre-backs will go into the match in good shape.
