Unai Simón shone with a series of decisive saves as Galarreta slalomed through three defenders to level at 1-1 after Guedes had scored via a slight touch off Berenguer.
As reported by as.com, Simón swept an early ball outside his area, then denied Marín one-on-one and tipped away a Jon Martín effort. He blocked another attempt through the middle, saved a Guedes set piece, then the Portuguese found the net with a strike that grazed Berenguer. Late on, Simón’s glove thwarted Oskarsson.
Areso began brightly, crucially stopping Oyarzabal from opening the scoring, before fading. Paredes, the only fit centre-back, covered tirelessly and went close from distance twice. Berchiche again filled in at centre-back with focus and fight, while Rego was strong in duels before being replaced at half-time. Boiro was hurried at times but showed spirit.
Jauregizar returned from European suspension and battled relentlessly. Unai Gómez, standing in for the injured Sancet, struggled for impact. Berenguer headed over and was lively without penetration. Guruzeta linked play well, drew a yellow for Zubeldia’s block, then squandered a chance. Nico Williams, back in the XI after missing Sporting de Portugal, had a free-kick hit the wall, threatened in transition and appealed for a Guedes handball.
Galarreta came on for Rego on 46 and injected craft, capping it with his superb equaliser. Navarro replaced Unai Gómez on 61 but his runs fizzled out. Williams came on for Nico on 71, freshly recovered and short of rhythm, while Izeta, also on 71, was booked in a tussle with Aranburu and fizzed a shot across Remiro’s right. Gorosabel, on 78 for Areso, delivered a couple of crosses.
In a tussle, Brais Méndez was sent off and Paredes was booked.
