1. FC Union Berlin have confirmed that Christopher Trimmel has signed a new contract, keeping the 38‑year‑old club captain at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei for another season. The right‑back - a true Union stalwart - put pen to paper during the club’s 60th anniversary celebrations, signing his extension in front of around 4,000 cheering fans.
Trimmel has been with Union since 2014, becoming one of the most familiar faces in the Bundesliga and a symbol of the club’s rise from the second tier to European competition. Despite increased competition for places in recent seasons, he has remained a key contributor and leader, featuring in 16 of the first 18 Bundesliga matches this season.
At the anniversary event, fans also honoured Trimmel by naming him in the club’s legends XI, underlining his importance both on and off the pitch. Union’s management highlighted his experience, leadership and deep connection to the club as reasons for keeping the long‑serving defender on board.
Trimmel himself said that Union has long since become more than just a club to him — “it’s his home” — and he’s looking forward to continuing to contribute both as a player and a leader in the season ahead.
The extension ensures that Trimmel will enter his twelfth season with Union Berlin in 2026/27, solidifying his status as one of the most enduring figures in the club’s modern history.
