The size of V Sports' holding was not disclosed, and could be around 30%. V Sports also owns Aston Villa, recent winners of the Europa League, and holds shares in Vitoria SC.

Talks had been in the pipeline for months, with first contacts between the clubs in summer 2025 before matters accelerated.

The relationship moved forward in September last year when Aston Villa loaned defender Triston Rowe, an England Under-20 international, to Annecy.
