Valencia and Eray Cömert have discussed his future, though not a renewal, and will pause for roughly one month to six weeks before deciding after Ron Gourlay contacted the Swiss defender’s camp. According to AS, Cömert has also committed to inform the club of any offers he receives before accepting one.

Cömert is out of contract on 30 June, and until January it looked likely his spell, which began in January 2022, would end this season. Late last year he changed agency to one with strong links to clubs in Central Europe, chiefly in the Bundesliga, yet his recent form has prompted Valencia to reconsider.

Amid injuries to fellow centre-backs César Tárrega, Diakhaby and Copete, he has started the last seven league games. He has scored two goals in victories over Espanyol and Alavés.

These displays are his best since arriving in 2022, during which time the club have loaned him twice, to Nantes and Valladolid. He has also earned greater appreciation at Mestalla, having previously sought favour with a derby corner-flag gesture.

The pause does not mean a renewal is imminent, it only indicates it is no longer ruled out. Ron Gourlay, Carlos Corberán and Lisandro Isei must shape next season’s group of four or five centre-backs, with Tárrega, Copete, Diakhaby and Justin De Haas already under contract beyond June.
