According to Superdeporte, Valencia remain in contact with Thomas Meunier during the World Cup and talks are progressing, with the Belgian the preferred choice at right-back for Carlos Corberán due to his leadership and experience.
Business has continued during the tournament, as shown by recent deals taking Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid and Víctor Muñoz to Liverpool.
Valencia are watching Belgium’s final group game closely after draws with Egypt, 1-1, and Iran, 0-0, left progression on a knife-edge. They face New Zealand in a must-win match for a place in the last 32. The club recognise that an early exit would aid their pursuit and could bring Meunier into pre-season sooner.
Meunier started both games so far, playing 90 minutes against Egypt and 58 against Iran. Sunday marked his 10th World Cup appearance, almost a decade on from his tournament debut in 2018.
Valencia also have a loan move for Aston Villa right-back Andrés García on the table, worked on for months but without an official offer. Clubs in LaLiga and Ligue 1 have already made approaches. Villa paid around eight million euros for the prospect in January 2025.
