Valencia name training pitch ‘José Manuel Ochotorena’ | OneFootball

Valencia have permanently named the first-team’s main training pitch at the Ciudad Deportiva de Paterna ‘José Manuel Ochotorena’.

According to AS, a plaque bearing his name was unveiled this morning before training, on Goalkeeper’s Day, with captain José Luis Gayà leading the squad.

His family attended alongside the director general of Valencia, Javier Solís, the CEO de Fútbol, Ron Gourlay, the director of the Academia VCF, Luis Martínez, the president of the Federación de Fútbol de la Comunitat Valenciana, Salvador Gomar, the president of the Asociación de Futbolistas VCF, Fernando Giner, club legend José Manuel Sempere, former Valencia goalkeeper Jaume Domènech, the Valencia Femenino goalkeepers and the Academia VCF goalkeeping department.

Andoni, José Manuel’s son, said it was a highly emotional day, adding that his father would be proud to see the plaque where he went every morning. He said the family were very grateful for the tribute.

Javier Solís described Ochotorena as a figure of wisdom and humility, and said it would be impossible to repay all he gave to the club.
