Kiat Lim, Valencia CF president, has shared an Instagram story celebrating Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portugal captain scored at the World Cup. Lim is the first president in the club’s history who has not exercised his role on the ground for more than a year.
According to Superdeporte, Lim posted a simple reel highlighting his long-standing ties with Ronaldo and the Lim family. On Tuesday Ronaldo struck twice in Portugal’s 5-0 win over Uzbekistan, becoming the only footballer to score at least once in six World Cups.
The enduring Messi Ronaldo rivalry frames the moment. Lionel Messi leads the current scoring chart in the United States, Mexico and Canada and tops the World Cup all-time list with 18 goals from five tournaments.
Valencia supporters are used to hearing little from Lim on club matters, with his main mode of communication coming via social media. He has recently posted about Carlos Corberán’s side late in last season’s LaLiga and progress on the Nou Mestalla works.
Valencia have only one contracted player at the World Cup, Eray Cömert, and he has yet to feature. Meanwhile the club face significant work to shape a squad capable of returning to European competition after more than six years away from tournaments such as the UEFA Champions League.
