Valencia v Betis could be postponed because of Lo Celso | OneFootball

The Valencia v Betis opener, scheduled between 14 and 16 August, could be postponed because Lo Celso is set for the World Cup semi-finals after Argentina’s progress. According to AS, LaLiga president Javier Tebas outlined the possibility on 30 June when the fixtures were released.

Tebas said Betis could request a deferral in these circumstances and that LaLiga would have to grant it. That leaves the decision with Betis in the build-up to the first weekend.

Valencia are waiting on their opponents, who must weigh up applying to move the game to ensure Lo Celso is available or playing without the Argentine.

Any postponement would place the fixture between the second and third matchdays, adding strain to the calendar at the very start of the campaign.

Betis had been expected to consider filing for a delay, but must now choose whether to lodge the request or proceed as scheduled.
