Vasco must pay three months of Fernando Diniz’s salary as severance. According to Globo.com, the clause in his deal to December 2026 allows the sum to be settled within six months of the termination.

Diniz was sacked after a 1-0 defeat to Fluminense on Sunday, the first leg of the Campeonato Carioca semi-final.

The club admire Artur Jorge, have sought information on Marcelo Gallardo, and are looking at Renato Gaúcho. Renato has been without a club since leaving Fluminense at the end of 2025, the side Vasco face again on Sunday in the second leg.

The decision will be taken by president Pedrinho, director of football Admar Lopes and technical director Felipe Maestro.

Vasco are avoiding setting a deadline, but hope to make progress by the weekend. On Thursday they visit Santos at Vila Belmiro, with Bruno Lazaroni in the dugout for the Brasileirão.
