Vasco have set their sights on a return to the Brasileirão Feminino elite, and a flawless opening to Série A2 has put them top with four wins from four.
According to Globo.com, this is the club's strongest opening to the competition since Série A2 was created. The surge follows renewed investment in the women's programme under Pedrinho's leadership from 2024, when the club were in the national third tier.
Head coach Rubens Franco, appointed this season after leading Brazil's under-17 women's team, praised the group's response but said the key would be sustaining performance through to the end if they are to return to the elite.
Playmaker Carolzinha highlighted the unity of the squad and the weight of the shirt, adding that the team's displays reflect the work being done off the pitch.
In the first phase, 16 teams face each other once, with the top eight advancing to the quarter-finals and the bottom two relegated to Série A3. The quarter-finals, semi-finals and final are two-legged ties. All four semi-finalists secure promotion to the Brasileirão Feminino Série A.
