Vasco da Gama have reached a verbal agreement to extend Puma Rodríguez’s contract for two years, with formalities expected in the coming days, according to PaponaColina. This rewards the full-back’s revival after a turbulent campaign.

In 2025 talks stalled, and in July he was omitted from the matchday squad against Grêmio by a technical decision, hinting at an imminent exit.

The situation shifted markedly with the arrival and consolidation of Fernando Diniz’s work. Rodríguez impressed in training, became a useful option off the bench, and covered at left-back when Lucas Piton was injured. His versatility and technique convinced both coach and board.

The player’s wish to stay proved decisive. His representatives did not offer him to other clubs, reflecting his intention to remain in Rio de Janeiro.

Internationally he remains appreciated by Marcelo Bielsa with Uruguay, having started recent friendlies during FIFA dates. The verbal pact was put together before the Copa do Brasil final, with only legal details now to be completed.
